The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade (DG TRADE) has launched the EU–Thailand Sustainability Impact Assessment (SIA) in support of negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the European Union (EU) and the Kingdom of Thailand.
The SIA will assess how a future FTA could affect economic growth, employment, social development, human rights, and the environment in both regions. By combining data-driven analysis with broad stakeholder consultation, the study will help ensure that trade policy contributes to sustainable and inclusive development.
The project is being implemented by a consortium led by Milieu Consulting, in partnership with LSE Consulting, Tutwa Europe, and the Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI). Together, the partners bring expertise in trade policy, sustainability assessment, and international development research.
The publication of the Inception Report marks the first milestone of the study. The report presents the methodology, analytical framework, and consultation plan that will guide the assessment over the coming months. It also outlines the key sectors and cross-cutting themes that will be examined in depth to understand potential benefits and risks of the future EU–Thailand FTA.
The Inception Report and its summary version will be published on this website in English. Additional translations and stakeholder materials will follow.
Stakeholders across the EU and Thailand are invited to participate in upcoming public consultations and share their insights through the Contributions page of this website. Regular updates, reports, and consultation outcomes will be made available as the study progresses.
